about-engagement-photos-FAQ

1. What are engagement photos all about?

Capturing the short and amazing time of life between your proposal and wedding! We believe your engagement photos should be more than just pretty pictures - they should be a physical representation of the life you’ve built together. Good engagement pictures will narrate your story and highlight what makes your love unique. When you look back, you’ll be able to talk about more than just your giant smiles - you’ll reference the location and other memories you’ve made there, funny moments from the session, and the reason behind any props you included. It’s a walk down memory lane.

when-to-take-engagement-photos

2. When should we get our engagement photos taken?

Couples should consider timing first. Do you need to have the photos done by a certain date? If you plan to use them on your save-the-dates, it’s best to take them at least 8 months before your wedding date so you can get them printed and shipped before the 6 months mark. If timing is not an issue, think about what weather or season you’d like to see - fall colors, a warm summer day, or a romantic snow flurry?

1. Be Confident.

It’s so important to look comfortable in front of the camera, so choose something that you makes you feel like a boss.

2. Consider the environment.

What color backdrop will your location provide? An outfit that compliments your location will allow you to blend in and stand out at the same time, like wearing a red dress in a field of green. Make sure you are prepared for the weather.

3. Get inspiration from your personal style, past favorite photos, and Pinterest.

Look around your house and wardrobe for personal styling insight - Do you prefer neutral tones or pops of color? Do you see boho furnishings, classic, rustic, sleek, or modern? Go through your camera roll and choose your favorite past photos - why do you like them? What were you wearing? Pinterest is literally the most amazing tool for outfit inspiration. Here you can find a board of our favorite items.

4. Choose a color scheme.

When you choose a color scheme before picking your outfits, it’s so much easier to keep everything coordinated and cohesive. Again, Pinterest is perfect for this!

5. Keep it simple.

Engagement photos are an expression of your love. An excess of colors and patterns can be distracting and draw the attention from you to your clothes. Keep your choices simple and elegant for maximum impact.

6. Go all out.

This is once in a lifetime experience. Why not dress to the nines? A fancy dress and a tux will make for classy, gorgeous photos. You really can’t go too dressy!

7. Add accessories and props!

Infuse personality and flare into your engagement photos by including your favorite accessories - jackets, watches, flower crowns, and rings photograph wonderfully. Wearing fun socks is a current trend I love. List your favorite hobbies/activities and see if you can include any equipment from them in your photos! Skateboards, sporting equipment, kayaks, camping gear, instruments, a cheese board and a bottle of wine - the possibilities are endless. This couple incorporated the bride’s love of knitting into their engagement session! (She also made bowties for all the groomsmen and yarn-flower bouquets for the bridesmaids.)

8. Compliment, don’t match.

I’m sure you’ve seen the 80s family photos where everyone is wearing matching windbreakers or jeans and a white tee… it’s not necessarily the most romantic look. Instead of wearing the same thing, choose outfits that compliment each other! Refer back to your color scheme when deciding on color options!

9. Textures > Patterns.

Some patterns can photograph really well. Others can be distracting and clash. Keep patterns to a minimum and opt for textures instead. Textures can add interesting details and depth to your photos without standing out too much. Laying textures can look incredible. Lace, leather, and fluffy blankets are some of our favorites!

10. Get your make-up and hair done!

Your engagement photos are a one-time occurrence and a link to a special time of life filled with many milestones. Why not go all out, pamper yourself and look and feel amazing?! You’ll need to do a trial for your wedding hair and make-up anyway; doing it the day of your engagement session will kill two birds with one stone. An Engagement Video | 3 Reasons To Get One

An engagement video tells the story of your relationship and engagement. You can revisit meaningful locations, interview friends and family who watched your love grow, and share your insider experience. It is a family memento meant to be cherished and shared. Here are the top 3 reasons we recommend filming an engagement video.

  1. You’ll never forget how you felt.

As time goes by your love grows stronger, but most people have a harder time remembering all of life’s beautiful memories. With an engagement video, you’re guaranteed to remember and relive exactly how you felt in your own words. Better yet, you’ll be able to watch it whenever, however, and as often as you desire. Play it at your anniversary parties, when family comes over, or when you just need an extra spark of love in your life.

  2. You can share it at your wedding.

Not everyone at your wedding will know you and your partner’s story. Instead of telling your story to everyone individually, you can play your engagement video on a large screen and relive the journey with all of your wedding guests. Sharing your story with all of your closest friends and family will create such a special moment and bring you all together in the spirit of your love.

  3. You can leave it behind for your loved ones.

This one is a little morbid, but personal photos and videos only grow more powerful with age. If you’ve lost someone close to you, you understand how cherished your photos with them become. Your engagement video will be a family heirloom that will be passed down and cherished for generations to come.
